Job description

1. GENERAL PAEDIATRICS: The in-patient service is based on one the Paediatric Assessment Unit. The ST1-3 may be called out to Accident& Emergency to give advice or deal with emergencies. The Out-Patient Department is based at the Pilgrim Hospital and, depending on grade,the post holder will be expected to attend Out-Patients regularly. These sessions include Boston-based and visiting Consultants.

2. NEONATAL PAEDIATRICS: The tier 1 doctors (this post) are supervised by the tier 2 doctors (ST4 and above/Specialty Doctors) atresuscitation on the labour suite, on the post natal wards and on the neonatal unit. The unit currently takes neonates up to 34 weeks. Infants withsurgical problems and extreme prematurity are transferred to either Lincoln County Hospital or sub regional centres. Further experience ofpractical procedures will be gained.

3. TEACHING: The ST1-2's are occasionally involved in teaching Nursery Nurses, Student Nurses and Midwives.

Qualifications

  • MBBCh
  • Current Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice

  • MRCPCH or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Suitable graduate experience

Desirable

  • APLS / NLS
  • Recent experience in Paediatrics and Neonatology
  • Teaching of junior medical staff and nurses

Skills

Essential

  • Clinical Competencies as would be expected having had 1-2 years + specialty experience
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively within a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Able to demonstrate contribution to service improvements
