Trust Fellow in Neurology - Epilepsy Fellow(ST3+ equivalent)

This post is based in the Department of Neurology in the New Victoria Wing of the Royal Victoria Infirmary, as part of the Regional Neurosciences Centre. This is a new position, designed to support the growing Epilepsy team. This post will be a fixed-term, year-long fellowship for either post IMT keen to begin their neurology career or senior clinical trainees who are aiming to focus on epilepsy post-CCT.

Current neurology training emphasises competency across the wide-ranging neurology curriculum, whereas an Epilepsy Neurologist needs focus and excellence within a narrower range. It is likely, post Shape of Training, that post-CCT credentialing will be expected for most specialists. For example, EEG competence is typically not gained from standard UK neurology training.

This Fellowship would be suitable for a neurology trainee nearing CCT who is looking to take on a Consultant post in the UK and specialise in epilepsy or post IMT looking to begin their neurology specialty. We would also be happy to accept applications from trainees in neurophysiology, neurosurgery, paediatrics and clinical genetics.

Support the out-patient epilepsy clinical service and learn from supervised clinics Attend specialist epilepsy clinics such as obstetrics, joint surgical, learning disability and Tuberous Sclerosis Undertake a quality improvement project of your choice which meets a current unmet need and create a plausible business plan Contribute to the research ongoing in the department Participate in feedback and evaluation at the end of the post.

Three clinics per week One general epilepsy clinic, one specialist epilepsy clinic (such as learning disability, paediatrics) and one research clinic

Video-Telemetry /EEG sessions Liaising with our inpatient-VT beds and reviewing the EEG. Weekly EEG meeting

Education and Qualifications

Desirable: - Neurology Specialty Certificate exam

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Desirable: - Experience in running an epilepsy outpatient Clinic with minimal supervision; - Experience of reading EEGs

Management and Administration Experience

Teaching

Essential: - Experience of supervising junior staff.; - Ability to teach clinical skills.

Desirable: - Course or specialist certificate in teaching

Clinical Governance, Audit and Research

Essential: - Experience of audit/QIP projects.
