Trainee Sonographer - Internal Only

You will be a flexible team player with excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will be required to organise your workload according to demand, scanning inpatients, outpatients and GP referrals. We expect a high quality of patient care to maintain our efficient and cost effect service. The Ultrasound department operates 7 day working. On completion of training, you will be expected to participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota. The service supports flexible working arrangements the majority of our team contribute to extended days through flexible contracts.Although based at the Westmorland General Hospital, you will be required to provide cover at all Trust Sites as the service requires.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Desirable: - Involvement in audit; - Evidence of CPD; - Evidence of interest in Ultrasound

Experience

Essential: - Working as a Radiographer in and NHS Hospital

Desirable: - Shadowing or observing Sonographers

Skills and Abilities

Essential: - Good communication skills; - Familiarity with NHS IT systems; - Good organisational and time management skills

Desirable: - Ability to cope with emotionally challenging situations; - Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology
