On Call commitment is essential to provide cover for emergency admissions, you will work as part of the on call team.

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence-based nursing care for a group of patients. Assist in and contribute to the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area

Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care

Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families

Act as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area

Regular in-house technical and clinical skills training sessions supported by industry.

The opportunity to train as an Interventional Cardiology scrub nurse

Experience of TAVI, Advanced EP studies and Coronary Intervention procedures

In addition to the main Registered Nurse Job description and person specification (which is a generic document) it is essential that all applicants to this position:-

Have the physical ability to perform the full range of nursing duties which in this post includes wearing Radiological (x ray) protection (Lead Apron / Tunic) as this is a radiology area.

Are able to work on-call according to roster after appropriate training and induction.

Delivery of effective health care within the organisation.

Perform comprehensive assessments of patients nursing needs and plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing healthcare needs.

Take responsibility for the care needs of individuals and groups of patients. Collect, collate and fully accurately report patient information, maintaining accurate, complete and contemporaneous nursing records.

Involve patients and carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of care.

Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure needs are met in relation to care input, support for ongoing care needs and safe discharge.

Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives.

Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Establishing effective leadership and communication.

Co-ordinate, organise and prioritise the work of the nursing team on a day-to-day basis.

Supervise others and participate in their education and development. Where appropriate, act as a mentor/expert witness.

Contribute to the development of services, new ways of working and the implementation of change.

Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, patients, carers and the public at all times.

Maintain effective and efficient communication with the Ward/Unit Manager and members of the multi-disciplinary team on issues related to patient care and organisation of nursing teams.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN 1st or 2nd Level.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or evidence of reflective profile
  • Have experience in supporting learners in the workplace and supervising their progress and/or assessing their practice.
  • Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery.

Desirable: - Has successfully completed an previous NMC Approved Teaching and Assessing or Practice Assessor programme or equivalent

Essential

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate well in a variety of settings with patients of all cultures and with differing levels of understanding
  • Ability to made decisions and prioritise a clinical patient workload.
  • Acts as a mentor and/or assessor and provide support to learners within the ward or unit
  • Understands the importance of teamwork and their role within the multi -disciplinary team
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal skills and relationships with colleagues across the health setting
  • Has the ability to use initiative and to lead and co -ordinate a multi -disciplinary team with minimal supervision

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Ability

Essential

  • Good basic understanding of the importance of delivering high quality clinical nursing care
  • Demonstrates knowledge of professional and NHS local and national nursing strategies and priorities
  • Demonstrates understanding of quality and change and the importance of new ways of working.
  • Able to present factual written and verbal information and deal with questions
  • Basic Knowledge of IT
  • Able to maintain accurate patient record

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the grade applied for. Experience will be dependent on the post/ward requirements at the time of recruitment
  • Some posts may be suitable for newly-registered staff and some may require previous experience. Contact the Ward Ward/Unit Manager or appropriate line manager for more information

Desirable: - Demonstrates understanding of clinical risk management in the NHS; - Demonstrates understanding of Clinical Governance in the NHS
