An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, senior clinical pharmacist to join the Neurosciences Team at Charing Cross Hospital on a fixe...
- Assist in the provision of a homecare service to neurology patients.
- Attend daily board rounds on the neurology wards, as appropriate.
- Attend meetings as part of the multi-disciplinary team, as appropriate.
- Participate in daily consultant-led ward rounds on the stroke wards.
- Support the training of other pharmacists and ward-based pharmacy technicians to enable them to work on neurosciences wards safely, when necessary.
- Support, develop and monitor the progress of all junior/rotational staff whilst on rotation within neurosciences.
- Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and maintain a portfolio in line with the requirements of the professional body.
- Attend appropriate courses and study days as required by the Lead Pharmacists.

Education/ qualifications
Essential
- Master's degree in pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent
- Active registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Completed, or currently undertaking, a postgraduate diploma in general pharmacy practice, and have satisfactorily passed all assessments pertaining to the postgraduate certificate modules (i.e. 18 month assessments) and beyond
Desirable
- Full Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice (completion of all FS2 modules of the JPB/UCL diploma) or another equivalent postgraduate diploma
- Independent prescriber annotation on the GPhC pharmacist register
Experience
Essential
- Solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
- Experience in delivering education and training
- Experience in the management of others
- Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options for patients
- Practical clinical experience
- Previous experience of clinical audit and service development work and/or pharmacy practice research
- Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice
Desirable
- Experience of clinical guideline development
- Experience of planning and developing pharmacy services
- Previous experience of using electronic prescribing systems
- Previous clinical experience within the neurosciences speciality
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential
- Ability to communicate complex information
- Good ability to organise and prioritise work
- Demonstrate the ability to reconcile national priorities with local realities within neurosciences
- Demonstrate good understanding of key NHS objectives and publications
- Understanding of issues affecting medicines use
- Good ability to use computer systems including MS Excel and Word
- Good ability to use electronic prescribing systems (ePMA) such as Cerner
- Good ability to use pharmacy computer systems such as JAC/CMM/Omnicell
- Ability to identify and manage clinical risks
- Demonstrable awareness of and commitment to clinical governance agendas
- Good clinical practice knowledge
- Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team, and managerial staff
Desirable
- Advanced MS Word and Excel proficiency
- Advanced ePMA software proficiency
- Communicate best practice outside the organisation
- Demonstrate good leadership skills
- Demonstrate the ability to identify the training needs of others
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and improve service quality
