Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Coagulation

The ideal candidate will have a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a BMS, have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology and Transfusion) or have equivalent, proven experience at Band 6 level in Haematology/ Coagulation. Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD) will be expected to be demonstrated at interview.

About our team?

The Coagulation department is well equipped with Stago Sta R Max coagulation analysers along with a Quantra and a Thrombo-Aggregometer TA-8V. The Coagulation department supports a comprehensive clinical haemophilia service and provides a full range of haemostasis tests, including platelet aggregometry, factor assays, inhibitor studies, thrombophilia, lupus screening, thromboelastography, VWD investigation, anticoagulant monitoring.

This role requires HCPC Registration.

Qualifications

Desirable: - MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent area of specialty

Experience

Essential: - Demonstrable experience of working in Haematology, Coagulation; - Experience of working in a UKAS ISO 15189 and MHRA approved laboratory

Desirable: - Performed a range of haemostasis tests in special coagulation

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential: - Good interpretive skills at bench level; - Good attention to detail and accuracy; - Knowledge of common IT software; - Handling biological specimens

Desirable: - Familiarity with database and spread sheet software.; - Familiarity with Quality Management Software; - Familiarity with Winpath software

Knowledge

Essential: - Willing and able to learn new skills.; - Currently participating in CPD; - A good understanding of Coagulation and Clinical Haemostasis

Desirable: - Ability to train junior staff to work in accordance to SOPs

Other requirements specific to the role

Essential: - Desire and ability to relocate to the area.

Desirable: - Able to work the occasional shift in the Haematology Laboratory
