About the Role We are looking for an experienced and skilled Social Worker to join the team at the Residential Family Assessment Centre. This is a specialist and rewarding role that sits at the heart of the assessment process — working directly with families who are residing at the centre, completing comprehensive parenting and risk assessments, and producing high-quality reports that inform court and local authority decision-making. Completing thorough, evidence-based parenting capacity and risk assessments for families residing at the centreWorking directly and therapeutically with families throughout their placement, building trust whilst maintaining professional boundariesProducing high-quality written assessment reports to a standard suitable for court proceedings and local authority useAttending and contributing to court hearings, professionals' meetings, looked after children reviews and other multi-agency forums as requiredWorking collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team including family support workers, psychologists and health professionalsMaintaining accurate, up-to-date case records and ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and organisational standardsProviding regular updates to commissioning local authorities and maintaining strong professional relationships with referring teamsContributing to the ongoing development of assessment practice and the quality of the service
What We Are Looking For We are looking for a qualified and experienced Social Worker who is confident in their assessment practice and able to work effectively within a specialist residential setting. You will be someone who is resilient, reflective and committed to high-quality practice — someone who can hold complexity, manage risk, and communicate clearly and professionally with families, colleagues and the courts. The ideal candidate will have:
A recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA Social Work, CQSW or DipSW) and current registration with Social Work EnglandProven post-qualifying experience in children and families social work, including experience of completing parenting assessments or working within a residential assessment settingStrong report writing skills with experience of producing court-standard documentationA thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children and the Public Law OutlineExperience of working within court proceedings and presenting evidence professionallyA reflective, trauma-informed approach to practice and a genuine commitment to working in partnership with familiesThe ability to manage a complex caseload, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines under pressure
