The main responsibilities of the role include
- Undertaking a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting medical problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation
- Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- Developing care plans for health inconsultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
- Providing health education
- Recording clear consultation notes to agreed standards
- All general duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
- Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
- Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate)
- Be on the NHSE medical performers list
And skills, including
- Good understanding and experience of chronic disease management and primary prevention & screening services
- Ability to take responsibility for your own career development, learning and performance and are responsible for ensuring that all your mandatory training is in date
- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
- Commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills in a confidential manner
The list size is around 16 800 patients, with no nursing homes in our catchment area, although we do cover a few specialists learning disability homes. There is a total of 11 GPs - 8 partners and 3 salaried GPs at full recruitment. We have a wide range of skills and experience and would be happy to accommodate for GPs with specialist interests. We are experienced in teaching and do take short term placement for training. We are also happy to support and mentor newly qualified GPs.
We try to keep paperwork to a minimum and have a team of administrative staff who will type letters and complete forms on your behalf. We also have a dedicated prescription lead who deals with most of the repeat scripts, TTOs and queries to help reduce the time spent dealing with prescriptions. We try to be as fair as possible with sharing work out you will not be expected to take on any additional work without prior agreement, and the partners will share out the visits equally amongst all the doctors on the day. On average there are 1 visit per doctor each day. On average GPs are on call once every 2 weeks. We meet for coffee every morning after surgery to have a catch up and an informal chat. There is a weekly clinical meeting every Thursday morning.
