An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join the Pre-Operative Team at Birmingham Women's Hospital. T...
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality pre-operative assessment services for patients undergoing elective gynaecological procedures. They will undertake comprehensive health assessments, coordinate investigations, provide education and support to patients, and contribute to the effective management of surgical pathways.
- Undertake comprehensive nurse-led pre-operative assessments for patients
- Identify, assess and manage clinical risks that may affect a patient's suitability for surgery or anaesthesia.
- Arrange and perform relevant investigations including venepuncture, ECG recording, physiological observations and screening swabs.
- Review and interpret investigation results, escalating abnormal findings appropriately
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
- Provide patients and their families with clear information regarding planned procedures, admission processes, recovery expectations and postoperative care.
- Support the development and implementation of individualised care plans.
- Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive documentation within electronic patient records.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are recognised, acted upon and escalated in accordance with Trust policies.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential: - 1st Level registered Nurse; - Evidence of recent and on-going professional development
Desirable: - Course in Mentoring and assessing in clinical practice
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
Essential: - Relevant experience post registration training; - Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing; - Interested in women's health
ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
Essential
- To have the ability to practice independently and manage own workload and priority
- Ability to undertake data input, collection, analysis, audit and evaluation
- Ability to be flexible for the needs of the service
- Able to think quickly in a rapidly changing environment
PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Sound understanding of professional nurse accountability
- Evidence of recent study
- Excellent I.T. skills Able to engage with IT programmes that support patient care
- Able to communicate effectively via email
Desirable: - Understanding of IT systems
