Phlebotomist

To provide a

high-quality phlebotomy service within a busy and fast-paced GP practice. The

successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining blood samples from

patients aged 15 and above, ensuring accurate patient identification and sample

labelling, maintaining infection prevention and control standards, managing

clinic appointments efficiently, and providing excellent patient care and

communication at all times. The role requires the ability to work

independently, prioritise workload, and remain calm and professional in a

demanding clinical environment.

To provide a high-quality and

efficient phlebotomy service to patients registered at the practice, supporting

the clinical team in the delivery of safe and effective care. The postholder

will work independently to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring

accurate labelling, recording, and timely dispatch of specimens to support

diagnosis and ongoing clinical care.

Perform

venepuncture on patients in line with clinical guidance and infection

control standards.

Ensure

samples are correctly labelled, recorded, and prepared for collection by

the laboratory.

Accurately

update patient records on the clinical system (EMIS).

Maintain

equipment, stock levels, and cleanliness of the phlebotomy area.

Work

collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure a

smooth and efficient service.

Provide

reassurance and information to patients, ensuring dignity, privacy, and

comfort at all times.

Report

any abnormal findings, incidents, or concerns to the appropriate clinician

or manager.

Adhere

to all practice policies, including infection control, health and safety,

confidentiality, and safeguarding.

Competency

in phlebotomy, with evidence of up-to-date training and practice.

Ability

to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both

verbally and in writing.

Demonstrate

good customer care skills and the ability to communicate effectively with

the Multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and visitors.

Ability

Experience

Desirable: - - Previous experience in a GP practice or NHS/community healthcare setting.; - - Experience using EMIS or similar clinical IT systems.

Qualifications

Essential: - Accredited phlebotomy qualification or equivalent competency-based training.; - Evidence of up-to-date training and continued professional development.

Desirable: - Basic Life Support (BLS) training.; - Infection control training.
