Job description

Jasmine Lodge currently has a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager vacancy based in Exeter, specialising in Perinatal Mental Health Nursing. The role focuses on...

  • To assist the Ward Manager in maintaining standards of care, promoting change and developing nursing practice.
  • To deputise for the Manager in their absence.
  • To have clinical expertise in delivering services to people with an organic illness.
  • To work to the NMC and NICE Guidelines and Standards
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge of legal requirements and other relevant legislation.
  • To demonstrate effective compassionate leadership.
  • To provide supervision and appraisal and be available to support and guide junior colleagues and students.
  • To be responsible for the provision and maintenance of effective therapeutic relationships to work collaboratively with others within the service and outside organisations.
  • To have a working knowledge of the Trust's Performance Indicators and how these equate to the team.
  • To lead and manage key areas of delegated work as required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A professional Mental Health Qualification( RMN)
  • Evidence of Post Registration Education
  • Up to date knowledge of Older Peoples Mental Health / functional illness and Frailty.
  • Mentoring training

Desirable

  • Experience of managing staff
  • Clinical supervision and mentoring experience
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • Understanding of Recovery principles and Person Centred Care
  • Teaching or coaching qualification
  • Understanding of Compassionate Leadership

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post registration experience
  • Experience as a band 5 in an inpatient setting
  • Experience of working within a MDT
  • Ability to cope with stress and a challenging environment
  • Ability to assess and manage risk effectively
  • Ability to manage difficult and complex situations
  • Ability to provide leadership to the team, to provide stability and inspire confidence in stressful situations

Desirable

  • Clinical supervision and mentoring experience and good liaison skills
  • Experience of working with older adults
  • Ability to manage own time and that of the team
  • Ability to work flexibly

Other

Essential

  • Ability to motivate others and support others to change
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to undertake nursing procedures - manual handling and physical restraint
