Leading and delivering specialist careProvide a high-quality, evidence-based dietetic service including those with highly complex feeding and nutritional needs, using advanced clinical skills and judgement. Managing a complex clinical caseloadAssess, diagnose and treat babies and children (0-16 years), developing individualised care plans and working closely with families to support safe and effective feeding. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT)Collaborate with medical, nursing and AHP colleagues, contributing to care planning, influencing decisions and acting as a key source of specialist advice Leading and developing the dietetic teamProvide clinical supervision, training and day-to-day support to junior staff, helping to build skills, competencies and a strong team culture. Driving service development and improvementLead on service development initiatives, contribute to policy and pathway development (including neonatal pathways), and use audit and evaluation to improve patient outcomes. Prioritising and coordinating careTriage referrals, manage workload effectively and ensure high-risk patients are seen promptly, supporting efficient patient flow and discharge planning.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
- HCPC registration
- Relevant post graduate master's level qualification OR equivalent evidence of clinical dietetic development in specialist field
- Documented evidence of continuous professional Development related to specialist area
- Clinical Supervisory Training (students)
Desirable
- BDA member
- Member of relevant BDA specialist interest group
- Teaching Qualification
- Advanced communication skills training
- Presentation skills training
- Leadership training
- Healthcare assessment module and prescribing (only if role has an identified need for prescribing)
Experience
Essential
- Significant clinical post graduate dietetic including experience in specialist clinical area
- Evidence of managing highly complex situations
- Excellent clinical knowledge of the nutritional management of a wide variety of clinical conditions based on current best practice
- Experience of leading on group and individual dietetic sessions including preparation, delivery and evaluation
- Significant experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of supervising, mentoring and appraising colleagues
- Can give examples of leading on quality initiatives, audit and / or service improvement work (or research if applicable to post)
Desirable
- Experience of line management
- Experience in research
Knowledge
Essential
- In depth dietetic knowledge in specialist area acquired through degree qualification and continuous professional development
- In depth knowledge of national strategy, policy and guidance relevant to post and how they can be applied in planning of services
- Knowledge of current issues and research relevant to specialist clinical area
- Aware of the different communication needs within a culturally diverse community and how this may impact on professional practice
- Sound knowledge of principles of clinical governance
Desirable
- Post registration training in behavioural change and motivational interviewing
Skills
Essential
- Able to communicate with clients using expert dietary counselling, motivational and negotiation skills
- Able to anaylse highly complex information and make judgements on dietetic issues
- Able to adapt written and oral communication style to meet the needs of various audiences including people from a variety of backgrounds and communication needs without risk of misunderstanding
- Keyboard and IT skills to support clinical practice
- Flexible approach and willingness to adapt to change
- Clinical supervision skills
