Mental Health Charge Nurse

Clinical Leadership and Management

• Lead the nursing team in delivering high standards of patient care.- Manage daily operations, including staff allocation, patient admissions, and discharge planning.- Assist the Ward Manager in the effective running of the ward in accordance with local policies and procedures.

• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, and monitor patients' responses.
• Advocate for patients' rights and ensure that their dignity and privacy are maintained.
• Supporting patients physical health care including comfort rounds, wound care and manual handling.

• Mentor and support junior nurses, healthcare assistants, and student nurses.
• Conduct performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback.

• Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate interventions.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control measures.
• Lead incident investigations and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.

• Collaborate with doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
• Foster effective communication within the team and with patients' families.

Desirable

• Knowledge of MHA (1983/2007).
• Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (2005), to include practical knowledge of FACE documentation, DOLS and Best Interest decisions
• Child and Adult safe guarding procedures.
• Change management, organising and prioritising workloads
• Demonstrate ability to enhance care through evidence based knowledge
• Demonstrate professional development relevant to the care group
• Demonstrates ability to assess and manage clinical risk
