The General Practice Medical Secretary performs a complex and rewarding job in a busy and dynamic environment. They are committed to the role and work effectively as a team.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, have excellent secretarial/audio typing skills, the ability to deal with patients in a professional and friendly manner, the ability to process complex information quickly and accurately in a busy working environment and to contribute positively to the success of the team.
To provide and maintain a high
standard of administrative services for colleagues and patients in General
Practice offering a helpful, friendly and confidential secretarial service
Receive telephone calls and electronic
mail and take appropriate action as per practice protocols. Mail handling,
preparation and distribution following practice protocols. Manage referrals via ERS. Prepare records or extracts as necessary via iGPR
Confidentiality of information gained at
work must be preserved at all times. General Data Protection Regulations must
be adhered to.
Identify
personal development and training needs in conjunction with the manager.
Support
others with their training and development needs.
To participate in continuing education
and maintain a contemporary level of professional knowledge and skills in line
with practice requirements.
PERSONNEL
Co-operation with the practice to
ensure all members of the team adheres to statutory regulations/policies and
codes of practice and departments safety rules.
Marton Medical Practice is a friendly and very busy General
Practice based within Whitegate Health Centre in Blackpool.
We have a full compliment of health and administrative professionals working together to promote the health and wellbeing of our patient population and that of our team.

Qualifications
Essential: - Typing/ Keyboard skills

- Touch typing skills
- GCSE Mathematics and English Language grade C or above (grade 4 or above from 2018)
- 5 GCSEs including Mathematics and English Language grade C or above
Experience
Essential
- Experience of administrative duties
- Excellent communication skills and effective in communicating and understanding patient needs.
- Competent in the use of MS Office and Outlook.
- Ability to onboard secretarial IT systems including Lexacom and ERS
- Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required. Ability to use own initiative, discretion, and sensitivity
- Clinical IT system user skills and the ability to record accurate notes
- Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
- Experience of ERS referrals
- Demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent typing and audio typing skills
- Adaptable and quick learner
Desirable
- Experience of EMIS and DocMan systems
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting as a medical secretary
- Experience of sending medical records via iGPR
- Knowledge of and ability to work to key policies and procedures
