An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinician to join Stockport NHS FT as a Locum Consultant Urologist for 12 months.
Stepping Hill Urology, as part of the Division of Surgery, provides a comprehensive urology service for patients in Stockport, Macclesfield, Tameside & Glossop, and High Peak. Outpatient activity is streamlined through purpose-built urology facilities at Stepping Hill and Tameside, which house all clinics, specialist sessions.. Out-patient and day case activity takes place at Macclesfield with satellite clinics at Knutsford and Congleton.
All in-patient activity takes place in the central hub at Stepping Hill Hospital. The unit provides major cancer surgery for Crewe patients as well as the above areas and hosts the specialist multi-disciplinary team meetings for the above patients who number 1.1 million. The benign services are supported by regional pelvic floor MDT (East Cheshire, Tameside and Stockport)
The general urological duties would be shared with the present Consultants who cover in-patient work at Stepping Hill Hospital and out-patient responsibilities between Stepping Hill Hospital, Tameside, Macclesfield and Mid Cheshire.
In addition, the post-holder will be expected to uphold the standards required for urology cancer accreditation, the cancer standards including Inter-Trust transfers and 18 week targets.
The contract will be offered at 10 PA and the rostered sessions may vary from week to week. 1.5 SPA will be allocated.
All Consultants may be requested to work flexibly in undertaking their duties. This may require working during the evenings and weekends to ensure effective delivery of service and its sustainability. The need for any alterations will be highlighted by the Clinical Director and discussed with all relevant Consultants.

This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Training
Essential: - Sp. Registrar year 5/6 in Urology
Qualifications
Essential
- FRCS or Equivalent
- Full registration with the General Medical Council FRCS (Urol) or its equivalent
- Entry onto the General Medical Councils Specialist Register or in receipt of CCST within 6 months of interview
Experience
Essential
- Urology experience and MRCS or equivalent experience
- Wide experience in Urology surgery
- Ability to manage elective and emergency urology conditions
- Comprehensive patient management
- Ability to train / supervise junior medical staff and medical students
Previous work experience
Essential
- Trained at Specialist Registrar or Equivalent Level
- Wide experience in urology and able to deal with both emergency and elective urological conditions
- Ability to train / supervise junior medical staff and medical students
