An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term locum Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join the team at University Hospital of Wales (...

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other obstetricians and the wider multidisciplinary team in the department to provide both elective and emergency obstetric services to secondary and tertiary level patients attending the hospital. The successful candidate will contribute to the obstetric workload of the department including delivery suite sessions and an on-call commitment, and will take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate education. All obstetricians are expected to become either a PROMPT facilitator or deliver CTG teaching as well as contribute more generally to teaching and risk/governance processes. The candidate will benefit from a strong risk and governance background.

This job will include full on-call duties on a 1:16 Obstetric on-call rota contributing to the 84 hours per week resident consultant. It will include contribution to all aspects of emergency obstetrics, elective Caesarean section lists, OAU and antenatal clinics. Antenatal clinics are likely to include general obstetrics and high risk high-risk antenatal care.

Essential Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • On Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR (Combined Programme) due within 3 months of interview date
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • ATSM or equivalent in advance LW practice

Essential Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
  • Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Competence in ultrasound

Essential Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
  • Experience of authoring written reports following adverse incidents (eg RCA or PSLR tools)
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance

Essential Research

Essential

  • Evidence of active research interests
  • Ability to critically appraise research

Essential Teaching

Essential

  • Evidence of teaching Obstetrics & Gynaecology to medical students and Ultrasound to junior doctors

Essential Management

Essential

  • Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process
  • Evidence of effective leadership skills
