The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Information Governance Officer to join our Data Security and Protection Team...

Provide specialist Information Governance and Data Protection advice to staff and stakeholders. Support compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information legislation and NHS standards. Undertake Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), information sharing reviews and compliance audits. Support digital transformation, service improvement and innovation projects by ensuring governance requirements are met. Manage and investigate information governance incidents and provide expert advice on risk mitigation. Deliver training, guidance and awareness activities to promote good information governance practices. Support the development of policies, procedures and assurance reporting across the Trust and Group organisations. Contribute to the safe, lawful and effective use of information to support patient care, service delivery and organisational objectives.

This role would suit an individual with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting high-quality healthcare through strong information governance practices.

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification, or significant equivalent experience in Information Governance, Data Protection, Information Management or a related field.
  • Specialist Information Governance or Data Protection qualification, or willingness to work towards one (e.g. ISEB/BCS Data Protection, GDPR Practitioner or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience of Information Governance, Data Protection and confidentiality within an NHS or public sector environment.
  • Good knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information legislation and NHS Information Governance requirements.
  • Experience of undertaking DPIAs, compliance assessments, policy development and delivering advice to a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent level of professional qualification relevant to role
  • Evidence of continued development in IG/ Data protection

Desirable

  • Specialist training in relation to IG subjects. E.g. ISEB Data Protection Qualification or Freedom of Information
  • Qualified in or knowledge of records management requirements

Experience/Skills

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of Governance issues relevant to the NHS including relevant specialist organisational / procedural / policy knowledge in relation to records and information management
  • Experience using the DSPT toolkit
  • Good understanding of the application of Information governance in a healthcare setting
  • Writing policy/ procedure/strategy documents
  • Experience of auditing in an NHS organisation
  • Understanding of NHS services and patient/information flows
  • Organisational skills - able to manage an operational framework that will deliver enhanced and equitable information governance across the Trust
  • Ability to write complex strategic and operational briefing papers, reports, policies and protocols
