Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a team under appropriate supervision
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective customer care
  • Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing)

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within a care environment/NHS
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with the public

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional
  • Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well-being (Making Every Contact Count)
  • Able to listen to advice from colleagues, agree a plan of action and implement

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of general education including literacy and numeracy

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 in care or customer services

Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Courteous, respectful and helpful at all times
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Manages stress levels effectively
  • Able to work in a busy environment and manage own workload

Technical Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to follow clear instructions and feed back to senior staff
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative
  • IT literate

Desirable

  • Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc.
  • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
