Working closely with the Governance Manager and Director of Quality and Governance, you will play a key role in supporting the organisation's governance framework, regulatory compliance, information governance, risk management and quality assurance activities.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities whilst maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.

As Governance and Compliance Officer, you will support the organisation in maintaining effective governance arrangements and ensuring compliance with statutory, contractual and regulatory requirements.

You will take ownership of designated workstreams and provide specialist support across governance, information governance, risk management, policy development, quality assurance and organisational resilience activities.

Key responsibilities include

  • Support compliance with information governance and data protection requirements, including GDPR, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Subject Access Requests (SARs), Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and data breach management.
  • Provide practical governance and compliance advice to colleagues and stakeholders, promoting good practice across the organisation.
  • Maintain and monitor risk registers, ensuring risks, actions and mitigating controls are accurately recorded and progressed.
  • Coordinate audits, inspections and compliance reviews, gathering evidence, supporting assurance activities and implementing improvement actions.
  • Develop, review and maintain policies, procedures and governance documentation, ensuring records remain accurate, accessible and up to date.
  • Produce governance, compliance and quality reports to support decision-making and organisational assurance.
  • Support the preparation of statutory submissions, organisational publications and external reporting requirements.
  • Manage governance enquiries and workstreams, ensuring activity is prioritised, tracked and delivered within agreed timescales.
  • Monitor governance data, identify trends and risks, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.
  • Contribute to organisational resilience by supporting business continuity and disaster recovery planning, testing and improvement activities.

We're looking for someone who can confidently support governance and compliance responsibilities within a regulated environment whilst building effective relationships across the organisation.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working within governance, compliance, healthcare management, business administration or a similar environment
  • Experience supporting governance, compliance, quality assurance or risk management functions
  • Experience managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Experience maintaining records, trackers and assurance documentation
  • Experience producing reports and monitoring actions through to completion
  • Knowledge of Information Governance and Data Protection requirements
  • Experience developing, reviewing and maintaining policies and procedures
  • Experience working within an NHS, healthcare or other regulated environment
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with stakeholders at all levels

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS governance frameworks
  • Experience supporting DSPT submissions
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and Cyber Essentials
  • Experience undertaking DPIAs
  • Experience managing Subject Access Requests or Freedom of Information requests
  • Experience supporting audits, inspections or accreditation processes
  • Experience supporting risk management and assurance frameworks
