Job description

We welcome applicants to apply for our newly created General Manager for Frailty Warwickshire Wide. Working across SWFT and GEH

The General Manager will support and assist the Directorate Manager to deliver services across Geroge Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust and associated community sites.

The General Manager will support and assist the Directorate Manager in the delivery of the constitutional standards, national, local and directorate priorities.

The General Manager will support and assist the Directorate Manager in the delivery of quality, activity, finance and governance for the directorate.

Working with the Clincial Leads, provide line management to staff within the directorate, including the annual job planning and appraisals.

The General Manager will lead on specific service improvement objectives working to ensure services are fit to meet the national, local and directorate priorities.

The General Manager will support the directorate with the development of business plans and the annual planning submission. They will also monitor compliance and delivery against plan.

The General Manager will support the development, implementation and annual review of business continuity plans, contributing to the Directorate emergency, prevention, preparedness and response (EPPR) plans.

Performance Management

To support and assist the Directorate Manager in ensuring robust performance management systems are in place for the Directorate.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager to monitor the services within the Directorate against the constitutional standards, to assist in the production of assurance papers to be delivered to the Divisional Board.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager, Nursing / Midwifery / AHP/ other professional leads and Clinical Leads in the preparation of any inspections and reviews to achieve compliance with NHS and statutory requirements, eg, CQC, HSE.

To manage and report on Directorate performance indicators to the Divisional Board that demonstrate compliance against national standards ensuring attention is paid to immediate risks and mitigation plans to maintain compliance.

To analyse and interpret data from various sources into effective knowledge management which drives the activities of the Directorate.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager to ensure all operational managers within the Directorate are aware of specific standards / targets that they are responsible for delivering and provide support to each manager to ensure safe and effective delivery of them.

To be responsible, in conjunction with the Clinical Leads and other clinical professional leads, for the delivery of clinical services, management of clinical risk and health care governance for each speciality within the Directorate, reporting to the Directorate Manager.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager to ensure effective and optimum utilisation of resources within the Directorate.

To work with the Directorate Manager to develop and implement business plans to ensure all services within the Directorate can respond to patients needs throughout the year.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager to ensure the Directorate meets all constitutional standards.

To use data to analysis and interpret performance relating to the specialities, developing strategies to address issues as they arise and provide assurance to the Directorate Triumvirate that those standards are being maintained, escalating any areas of concern.

To support and assist the Directorate processes aimed at improving and maintaining financial controls, providing assurance to the Directorate Triumvirate, escalating concerns and proposing mitigation plans when deviation is seen.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager in any digital developments, including changes to the electronic patient record or new technologies to improve and enhance patient care and productivity.

Strategic Development

To work collaboratively with the Clinical Leads, Nursing / Midwifery/ AHP and other professional leads to identify the key activities for service improvement and business development. To inform the Directorate Triumvirate of service level plans so they can be included in the business planning cycle and budget setting.

To develop and deliver business opportunities that maintain, support and enhance the delivery of high-quality services, including new and existing opportunities for income generation. To advise the Directorate Triumvirate of opportunities and work in collaboration to inform business planning.

To support and assist the Directorate Manager, taking the lead as required, for service redesign with the multidisciplinary directorate team, supporting operational managers to confidently design and implement service changes to meet the national and local priorities and to improve patient care.

To work with the Directorate Triumvirate and other managers to inform and contribute to the strategic planning that will support development of the Trust planning and priorities.

To develop effective partnerships with clinical teams and an environment in which all directorate staff have the opportunity to be involved and influence the management, planning and development of services within the directorate

Financial Responsibilities

To support and assist the Directorate Management to establish a strategic direction that will provide a base for business planning and reflects the local and national priorities.

To lead the speciality multi-disciplinary team in the management of budgets, reporting to the Directorate Triumvirate to ensure services are delivered cost effectively and productivity is maximised.

To maximise income opportunities available to the directorate and to ensure business cases are developed to sustain and transform services in line with local and national priorities. To inform and influence the Directorate business plans.

To ensure all assets within the directorate (buildings, land and equipment) are utilised efficiently and effectively. To inform and support the Directorate Triumvirate to ensure the Directorate needs are reflected in the Divisional capital plans.

To support and assist the Directorate Triumvirate in producing strategic business, workforce and financial plans for the Directorate, informing and assuring the Directorate Triumvirate that such plans are in line with local and national priorities.

To support the Directorate Triumvirate in the development of services to meet the national agenda of providing patient care locally by working with primary and third sector providers.

  • Participation in a senior management development program qualification or demonstrable experience
  • Educated to Master's Level or equivalent experience
