Newton Abbot Community Nurse team is currently based across two locations, Sherbourne House in Newton Abbot and Riverside Surgery in Bovey Tracey. We cover a large geographical patch covering the practice population of nine GP surgeries.
A busy but friendly and supportive team we are committed to staff development through education and training helping staff realise their potential in topics of interest to them and encouraging career pathways in Community Nursing.
We pride ourselves on delivering high standards of care and building relationships within the communities we are part of. We are actively working to a more integrated approach to care delivery and work closely with our Intermediate Care, Social care and voluntary care sector colleagues to achieve this.

Qualifications and Training
Essential: - Qualified Registered Nurse level 1; - Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
- Diabetes course
- Palliative and End of life care experience
- Practice supervisor /assessor
- Experience of complex wound care
- Catheter management
- Experience of continuing health care assessments
- Previous community experience
Knowledge and experience
Essential
- Proven relevant experience in a range of clinical skills including complex and specialist skills
- Relevant I.T. knowledge/experience
- Awareness of safeguarding adults and children
- Awareness of resource management
- Holistic client assessment using an identified model of care
- Utilising specialist knowledge across a wide range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge
- Ability to make sound clinical judgements and decisions in response to complex or crisis situations
- Awareness of mental capacity act
- Maintain timely and accurate written records
- Manage/prioritise a caseload, demonstrating appropriate delegation
Desirable: - Health and Safety awareness; - Equality and diversity awareness; - Understands clinical governance; - Awareness of local and government agendas
