Senior Clinical or Counseling Psychologist or Psychological Therapist - Acute Inpatient Care, Adults of Working Age, North View, North Manchester Band...
Each ward at North View is staffed by a full multidisciplinary team, and you will work with them to ensure that the psychological needs of service users and staff are understood and met. There is an important emphasis on working collaboratively with our MDT colleagues and providing consultation, training and emotional support to them.
There is a passion in the team to work creatively and inclusively with service users who are often from socially and culturally diverse back grounds and to work in a flexible way to support the wards to become psychologically safer environments that are trauma informed. We also want to promote a trauma informed approach to supporting staff working in In-Patient settings and this includes supporting staff who experience racism and other forms of discrimination.
We are looking for a highly skilled clinician who has experience in working with individuals with the full range of mental health problems assessing and co-developing formulations that can inform service users' care and treatment.
There are opportunities to work collaboratively with Trust wide research projects and where possible we try to support team members to have training in modalities that are effective in In-Patient care.You will be expected to contribute to service development initiatives and their evaluation by audit and research work as required to support and enable the service's ongoing improvement.

Academic
Essential
- Good honors degree in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS) Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) as accredited by the BPS Registered Clinical Psychologist or Practitioner Psychologist equivalent with the HCPC
Desirable
- Further training in Evidence based approaches to complex mental health problems, including 3rd wave approaches, CAT, DBT, Hearing Voices Approaches (such as Talking with Voices, Compassion Focussed Therapy), Systemic approaches.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the life span and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a wide range of care settings including community, outpatient and inpatient. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
Desirable
- Experience of working with families Personal experience of mental health problems. Experience of facilitating groups Experience of working creatively to engage service users who may struggle with conventional therapeutic approaches.

- Previous experience of delivering structured psychological interventions to clients with severe and complex mental health problems. Experience in risk assessment, formulation and management particularly important. Experience in the application of cognitive-behavioural and other evidenced based approaches to people with severe and enduring mental health problems. Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework. Experience of working to promote equality and diversity/ cultural sensitivity. Experience of working with Asylum seekers, and others who may need translators.
