- Perform specialist scientific and technical work within the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) service, requiring a high degree of accuracy, judgement, and practical expertise.
- Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, professional clinical and technical TDM service to the Trust and external users, working to national standards, accreditation requirements, and departmental policies.
- Participate in the evaluation, validation, implementation, and continuous improvement of analytical techniques used within the service, including assays for immunosuppressive drugs and other therapeutic agents.
- Support research, development, audit, and service improvement activities relating to therapeutic drug monitoring, particularly in renal and transplant patient care.
- Assist with the day-to-day operation of the TDM laboratory, ensuring timely and accurate processing, analysis, and reporting of patient samples, and provide support to senior staff as required.
- Support the training of supervision staff in accordance with departmental training programmes and service requirements.
- Maintain compliance with HCPC standards, ISO 15189 accreditation requirements, health and safety regulations, and the quality management system.
- Participate in the implementation of new methods, equipment, and procedures to improve service quality, efficiency, and patient care outcomes

Education/ qualifications
Essential
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Desirable
- BMS Specialist Portfolio completed
- MSc in Biomedical Science or related discipline.
- Higher Specialist Diploma or equivalent advanced qualification
- Leadership or management qualification
Experience
Essential
- Post-registration experience in an NHS diagnostic laboratory
- Experience working within UKAS/ISO 15189 quality standards
- Experience of performing, validating and interpreting complex laboratory investigations.
- Experience supervising junior staff, trainees, or support workers.
- Participation in audit and quality improvement activities.
Desirable
- Significant experience in a specialist discipline.
- Experience of implementing service improvements.
- Experience in staff training.
- Experience in research, innovation, or clinical trials
- Experience with data analysis and service performance monitoring
