To provide clinical expertise through the role of Oncology Day Unit manager to manage and develop the service . The post holder will work in close liaison with the other Unit Manager, and other Deputy Sister/ Deputy Charge Nurses, Matrons, Practice Development Team (PDT) and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to provide the highest quality of assessment and evaluated care required to support each patient in their care pathway and improve the patient experience.

Candidates should be working within the SACT service and have significant post registration experience including previous experience of giving SACT and managing toxicities/acute oncology symptoms.

Enhanced knowledge and decision-making skills are essential and completion of, the clinical skills course or equivalent would be an advantage.

To be responsible for co-ordinating the provision of continuous clinical care within allocated resources, providing a quality service and high clinical standards for all patients in your areaTo be responsible for the management of all human resource issues relating to the staff employed in your areaTo act as Budget Holder, accountable for the management of the unit budget, and for the management of the charitable fundTo exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.To role model compassionate and inclusive leadershipTo liaise and co-ordinate the ODU team through the use of effective communication and evidence-based practiceTo provide the highest standard of holistic care for Oncology /Haematology patients undergoing treatment and supportive care, through the utilisation of advanced clinical skills.To contribute to the setting, standardisation and maintaining of standards of care across all sites delivering Chemotherapy and SACT Trust wideTo participate in the on- call rota for the Trust wide Chemotherapy Emergency Helpline

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse
  • Degree in Nursing or relevant study at degree level.
  • Registered mentor
  • SACT administration qualification
  • Advanced Clinical Skills Qualification
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake within 18 months

Desirable

  • Managerial qualification
  • IRMER qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Advanced Communication qualification or willingness to undertake
  • ECDL qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive skills and knowledge in Oncology
  • Previous oncology experience at Band 6
  • LEO or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Demonstrate knowledge of specialty, as appropriate
