Assess and manage common psychiatric emergencies and conditions - including
competent dementia assessment and perform suicide risk assessment.
Be aware of
the procedures for assessment and implementation of detaining /admitting
patients under the Mental Health Act.
Make appropriate referral
to other professionals.
Work with colleagues within the
multi-disciplinary setting
Participate in the resident doctor on-call rota

Psychiatrists are essential
contributors to the majority of our mental health teams. Service users expect
and are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicated
psychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Good knowledge and experience of working in psychiatry - particularly old age psychiatry
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
Essential
- Must be up to date with psychiatric knowledge and mental health service provision in the NHS
Desirable
- Ability to teach and pass on knowledge to team members
Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in psychiatry
Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of submitting your application.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in old age psychiatry in the NHS
Desirable
- Experience of working in a community mental health team
