Theatre Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner

• Delivering excellent standards of care and providing patient support Elective Orthopaedic and trauma surgery , advocating on behalf of the dependent patient.
• Undertaking the Scrub practitioner role, ensuring safe environment and practice is maintained.
• Working with, and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Preparation and monitoring of the environment of care, and equipment.
• Supervising junior colleagues, unregistered staff and students.

• In partnership with other professionals and disciplines, develop measurable patient care plans/goals. The process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care from admission to timely transfer or discharge.
• Take charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients on the ward /department prioritising workload according to changing clinical need over a 24 period.
• Delegate tasks and activities to a range of team members in relation to patient care (for example when taking charge or as link nurse).
• Ensure nursing documentation is maintained, accurate and timely in line with the Trust standard.
• To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. To work towards promoting this to others.
• Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients.
• Administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy.

Essential

• 1 st Level live NMC Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner qualification
• Evidence of ongoing practice development
• Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period unless post is bank only).

Desirable

• Recognised post graduate theatre/anaesthetic qualification
• Recognised teaching qualification
• Diploma/degree in nursing/or health related topic
• Post Registration qualification in specialty

Desirable

• Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
• Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
• Completion of in-house training scheme
