We have an exciting opportunity to join our Triage and Emotional & Behavioural Teams. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Band 5 Assistant...
The post-holder will
Complete triage assessments for new referrals with a wide range of presenting issues, appropriate to the training and skills level of the assistant psychologist, and under appropriate supervision.
Make recommendations for onward referrals and treatment needs of young people in conjunction with the triage team and/or the clinical supervisor.
Communicate the outcome and recommendations of triage assessments to young people, families, schools, and external agencies. Write letters, referrals and reports as appropriate with outcomes and recommendations.
Be involved in other activities supporting the team functioning as required. For example, maintaining the database of third sector agencies, which we refer to. Support EB Clinical Team Leads managing waiting lists.
The post holder will be supported to gain experience on the delivery of evidence based interventions for children, young people and families under the supervision of qualified clinical psychologists. There may also be scope for the post holder to contribute towards our service groups' interventions offer.

Training Qualification
Essential
- Degree (1 or 2.1) in Psychology or master's level
- Graduate membership of the BPS

- Communication & Relationship skills: Well developed skills and ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing complex, highly technical and or sensitive information for dissemination both within and outside the local authority and NHS
- Analytical & Judgmental skills: Understanding of the interaction between mental health/emotional wellbeing and areas of social care need like trauma, abuse, poverty, family/professional relationships or housing
- Planning and organisational skills: Able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload
- Physical skills: PC skills
- Information resources: Able to record and report on clinical information as required
- Competent in use of Word and Excel
- Research & Guidance: Good research and statistical skills, including ability to access and search evidence based resources
- Cultural awareness: Understanding of the impact of discrimination and disadvantage on mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Flexibility: Able to be flexible and adapt approach according to need
- Able to work independently and to seek support as appropriate
- Able to use supervision to improve work
Desirable
- Information resources: Competent use of other IT packages e.g. PowerPoint, SPSS, Access

Experience
Essential
- Experience in a health or social care setting
- Experience of individual or group interventions for parents or young people in a clinical/care/education setting
- Conducting audit and/or evaluation projects
- Work in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters

- Contribution to research programmes

- Able to contain and work with organisational stress and able to hold the stress of others
- Physical effort: Able to sit in constrained positions for a substantial proportion of working time

- Emotional effort: Able to manage effectively frequent exposure to highly distressing/highly emotional circumstances and exposure to traumatic circumstances
