As a Medical Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing a friendly, professional and efficient service at all times. Working as part of a large reception team, your duties will include:
- Greeting patients and visitors and dealing with enquiries in person, by telephone and online.
- Booking, amending and cancelling appointments.
- Processing prescription requests and other admin.
- Managing patient information accurately and confidentially using the clinical computer system, EMIS.
- Signposting patients to the most appropriate service or healthcare professional.
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of a busy GP practice.
- Working closely with clinicians and colleagues to deliver a high standard of patient care and customer service.
This is a varied and rewarding role in a fast-paced healthcare environment where no two days are the same.
Purpose of the RoleTo provide a professional, friendly and efficient reception service to patients and visitors, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice. Working as part of a large reception team, you will be responsible for managing patient enquiries, appointments and administrative tasks while delivering excellent customer service in a busy healthcare environment.
Main Responsibilities- Act as a first point of contact for patients and visitors, both in person and over the telephone.
- Handle a high volume of calls and enquiries in a courteous, professional and efficient manner.
- Book, amend and cancel appointments in accordance with practice procedures.
- Register new patients and update patient records accurately.
- Process prescription requests and other routine administrative tasks.
- Signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician, service or source of support.
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including electronic communications.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with data protection requirements.
- Support clinicians and colleagues with administrative tasks as required.
- Work collaboratively with members of the reception, administration and clinical teams.
- Contribute to maintaining a welcoming, safe and organised reception environment.

Qualifications
Essential
- Good standard of general education, including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 or above in Customer Service, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Relevant customer service or reception training.
