Excellent problem-solving skills are a must, to ensure holistic and patient centred quality care.
Demonstrable experience in facilitating discharges within the clinical speciality of Orthopaedic Inpatients is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively as part of multi-disciplinary and therapy team. This will involve working closely with other OTs and Physiotherapists to ensure optimum service delivery and delay avoidance.
- Provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards.
- Joint working with Physiotherapy
- Formulate individual treatment plans with patients with diverse presentations and complex conditions
- Responsible for own caseload demonstrating prioritisation and delegation skills alongside excellent team working
- Initiation of and involvement in service improvement projects, clinical and team audit
- Effective and timely discharge planning working within an MDT
- Supervise and support assistants
- Supervise and educate students
- Maintain and develop strong communication links with community services
- Contribution to our 7-day service including an element of weekend working

Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements:
Essential
- Degree or Equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable
- Member of RCOT or Equivalent
- Evidence of further learning
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- To be able to demonstrate a good understanding of Trauma and Orthopaedic Presentations
- Understanding of other factors that can affect function (i.e. age, environment, etc)
- To be able to demonstrate the clear clinical reasoning
Desirable
- Evidence of CPD and specialist interest
- Evidence of knowledge of specialist areas i.e. splints, amputee rehab, spinal rehabilitation
Skills and Ability
Essential
- Experience of working within Trauma and Orthopaedics in Therapy Capacity
- To be able to demonstrate the ability to plan and prioritise caseload
- To be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a flexible manner adapting to changing situations constructively
- Evidence of core OT skills in assessments and treatments
Desirable
- Experience of fast track / EOL discharges
- Supervision of and/or educating others
