- Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adults with learning disabilities who present with communication and/or dysphagia needs.
- Develop and implement person-centred care plans, promoting safety, well-being, and quality of life.
- Undertake dysphagia assessments, including risk assessment, management, and the provision of guidance, in line with current evidence-based practice and professional competencies.
- Work collaboratively with service users, families, carers, and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and effective care.
- Provide training, advice, and support to paid carers and other professionals to promote best practice.
- Contribute to risk management processes, including safeguarding procedures and positive risk-taking approaches.
- Maintain high standards of clinical record-keeping, documentation, and reporting.
- Participate in service development initiatives, audits, and quality improvement activities.
- Contribute to the supervision and support of students and support staff, as appropriate.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and reflective practice.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
- Current registration with HCPC and RCSLT
- A broad understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, (e.g. NHS 10 Year Plan, Transforming Care)
- Degree or Diploma plus relevant skills, knowledge, training and experience (e.g. intensive interaction, AAC, dysphagia, assessment)
Desirable
- Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, (e.g. NHS 10 Year Plan, Transforming Care)
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) e.g. developing specialist interests
- Evidence of post-registration professional practice
Desirable
- Evidence of specialist practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
Skills and Competencies
Essential
- Effective inter-personal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring
- Able to demonstrate effective communication skills
- Good time management skills
