Conduct formal and informal assessments for adults with acquired communication disorders.
Formulate differential diagnoses with support from senior SLTs as required.
Provide evidence-based, goal-oriented communication therapy.
Consider and provide AAC as appropriate.
Work closely with the MDT including carers, GPs and others.
Provide training and advice to family members, carers and other healthcare staff.
Maintain accurate, timely clinical notes and write clinical reports.
Participate in clinical supervision and CPD activities.
- To assess, diagnosis and manage adults with a range of acquired speech, language and communication difficulties across a range of out-patient settings in Gateshead e.g. care homes, clinics, patients homes and potentially hospital wards as required, including those who have complex and/or severe difficulties.
- To input into the specialist service for patients as part of the MDT.
- To supervise the work of SLT assistants/Technical Instructors /nursing and care staff and students.
- To participate in research in specialist area as required.
- To work in close collaboration with other professionals and as part of the MDT to provide an integrated approach to each clients specific difficulties.
- To provide excellence in clinical care and working to achieve the highest level of patient safety.
- To continuously develop the service and constantly strive to improve.
- To act as a source of specialist clinical information/advice for the Trust.
- To provide appropriate clinical supervision and in-service training for speech and language colleagues, assistants and students.
- To contribute towards service evaluation and demonstration of efficacy and efficiency.

Qualifications
Essential: - Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent; - HCPC registration
Desirable: - RCSLT membership
Experience
Essential: - Experience working with an adult caseload; - Experience working with an MDT; - Experience carrying out communication assessment and intervention
Desirable: - Experience delivering therapy in a community setting
