- Attendance at ward team meetings and chair these meetings when required.
- Medical leadership to the multidisciplinary ward team.
- Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment.
- Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery.
- Undertake Seclusion reviews as necessary.
- Attendance at Tribunal hearings for people detained under Mental Health Act.
- Completion of administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities.
- Writing of Mental Health Review Tribunal Reports or reports to other agencies.
- Liaison with members of other teams to transfer patients into and out of inpatient service.
- Attendance at CPA reviews and pre-discharge planning meetings.
- Clinical supervision of junior medical staff
- Teaching of undergraduate medical students.
- Attendance at weekly CPD sessions.
- Attendance at Monthly Governance meetings and Leadership meeting.
- Will be supported through monthly clinical supervision.
Our new ward is an acute mental health inpatient ward, which has 12 beds, all of which are individual rooms with ensuite facilities. It has a full multidisciplinary team (medical, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, psychology, housekeeping, administrative & physiotherapy staff) providing acute inpatient care.
Every service user admitted to the ward has a care plan which outlines specific details of the treatment and support they will be offered. This includes a named nurse who will be allocated to each service user. The named nurse will work closely with service users throughout their time on the ward and will coordinate their plan of care.
Service users on the ward will have access to professionals such as Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, non-medical Approved Clinicians (ACs), Psychologists, Support Workers and Occupational Therapists. The Ward is located at The Michael Carlisle Centre. It is accessible on foot, by several public transport routes, there are railings to park a bicycle or there is also a car park on site.

Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Effective leadership skills
- Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers.
- Ability to supervise junior staff
- Awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments
- Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.
Desirable
- Experience of involvement in service development and/or reconfiguration
- Practical experience of research
- Sympathetic to the Trust's mission
Training & Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice
- Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved OR eligibility for S12 approval.
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Training in evidence-based interventions
- Approved Clinician (AC) status/eligibility to be on the AC register.
Experience
Essential
- 2 years Foundation experience or equivalent.
- 2 years Core Psychiatry experience or equivalent.
- Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Experience in medical audit & understanding of clinical governance principles
Desirable
- Teaching/presentation experience (e.g. conference presentation, EBM, research experience).
- Experience of adult acute and crisis and/or psychiatric inpatient care
- A detailed knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the functions of the Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Managers' Hearings
- Experience of writing reports of and attending Managers' Hearings and MHA Tribunals.
- Experience networking and building collaborative working relationships across a range of stakeholders to improve patient care pathways and experience.
