The post holder will work as part of a committed team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, and Therapy Assistants delivering a service at Stepping Hill Hospital and in the Stockport community.
The post holder will provide 12 month vacancy cover within two of the specialist areas on a 9-monthly basis within Stepping Hill Hospital and other Stockport Foundation Trust sites. They will participate in CPD, clinical audit and in-service training.
They will be an autonomous practitioner, both professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work.
They will assess, diagnose, plan and deliver treatment programmes to patients in their care.
Excellent communication, organisational and team working skills are required as well as the ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
There will be a responsibility to ensure the service demand is met with adequate cover via a 7 day rota, covering weekends and bank holidays.
You will have the opportunity to support and develop Band 5 therapists within the team and act as a clinical educator to students. Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further their own and team's clinical practice.
They will make recommendations to clinical team leader for changes to practice. They may lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service guidelines.
You will be given the opportunity to develop your clinical skills through the delivery of a wide range of evidence based treatments and a robust in service training program. You will also be expected to mentor and support band 5 Occupational Therapists, therapy assistants and students. You will also be expected to have an active role in service review and development.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- State Registration with the Health Professions Council.

- Evidence of continual professional development.
- Fieldwork Education Course.
- Membership of RCOT
Knowledge
Essential
- Broad knowledge of best practice, guidelines and research in occupational therapy
- Knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice.
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and risk management
- o Application of the Occupational Therapy process with designated patient group.
- o Knowledge and application of standardised assessments.
- o Understanding of therapy outcome measures.
- o Computer literacy
- o Up to date in professional practice and new research.
Desirable
- Knowledge of government policy and current practice.
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance since its application.
- Knowledge of intermediate care and community/support services.
- Knowledge of discharge planning processes.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of supervising junior staff, support staff and /or students.
- Experience of different teaching or facilitation methods
- Experience of discharge planning processes, intermediate care and community services
Desirable
- Post registration experience in stroke in a clinical setting.
- Experience working in the acute hospital and community setting
- Experience of research or audit.
