- Responsibility for the leadership of nursing, midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (AHP's) within Special Care Baby Unit.
- Responsible for the delivery of safe and clinically and cost effective and compassionate care within the service, providing assurance evidence in this regard to the Head of Nursing & Quality.
- Has professional responsibility for Senior Sisters, Charge Nurses, Team Leaders and some Allied Health Professionals within the services.
- Leads clinical services in the Care Group.
- Provides credible, visible and effective leadership nursing and midwifery staff within the services.

Qualifications and role specific knowledge
Essential
- Registered nurse (relevant to the field of practice of the Care Group and or Matron).
- Live NMC Registration.
- Educated to a bachelor's degree level in Nursing, Midwifery, Leadership and Management or an Allied Health Professional degree.
- Registered Allied Health Professional, or Pharmacist with live registration with the Registering Authority.
- Management Qualification or relevant experience.
Desirable
- Recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
- Educated to Masters level.
- Evidence of development or evidence based care.
Physical Skills
Essential
- Ability to initiate, lead and manage change.
- Organisational and leadership skills.
Aptitudes
Essential
- Specialist knowledge of the professional leadership and management of nursing, midwifery, or Allied Health Professional services has been developed.
- Evidence of ongoing and relevant personal and professional development in the last 2 years.
- Expert knowledge of nursing and Allied Health Professional practice and understanding of related clinical services providing clinical advice to annual planning and service developments.
