  • Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
  • Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
  • Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care.
  • Plan organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
  • Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
  • To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
  • Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse.

Education/ qualifications

Essential: - Registered Nurse; - Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience; - Relevant specialist course or equivalent experience in speciality

Desirable: - Quality Improvement experience/qualification or working towards

Experience

Essential: - Previous experience of speciality

Desirable: - Team leader experience

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Teaching - Nurse SSSA Assessor
  • Evidence of Link Nurse responsibility and contribution
  • Ability to organise ward activities and to use initiative
  • Knowledge of Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Ability to solve problems and contribute new ideas
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Competency in medication administration including IV medications
  • Skills required to undertake clinical activity related to speciality
  • IT skills including use of EPR, email and Microsoft packages
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
  • Awareness of current developments in nursing
  • Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Extensive knowledge of speciality

Desirable: - Knowledge of budget management; - Ability to praise
