The post holder will be responsible for the below:
They will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical staff member, and team leader. They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to their team, and coordinate and deliver high quality care.
They will be a role model for expert clinical care, and lead on specific projects / management functions as delegated by the Clinic Manager.
They will role model the identified Trust values at all times. In general settings, they will be the assigned deputy for their manager, generally known as a Junior Sister / Charge Nurse, coordinating clinical, managerial and education requirements of the area, and being a role model for team members, whilst delivering and overseeing high standards of care. In midwifery settings they will be called a Midwife. In specialist settings, they will have a significant level of specialist clinical knowledge and expertise in the clinical functions of care delivery.
They will provide advice and guidance also, and generally be known as a senior staff nurse.

Education and qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse
- Successfully completed or willingness to undertake teaching/assessing course
- Evidence of professional development
- Relevant specialist courses/training
Desirable
- HIV course
- Sexual health course
- Counselling course
- Working towards a BSc/ MSc
- Relevant specialist courses/training including a recognised Family Planning qualification
- Leadership training
Experience
Essential
- Relevant post registration sexual health or HIV experience at Band 5 level
- Wide variety of clinical experience
- Proven management experience
- Experience of clinical supervision
- Experience of excellence in leading all /part of a clinical team in practice
- Experience of teaching and supporting learners / new staff etc
- Experience of health promotion and education
- Relevant post registration sexual health or HIV experience at Band 5 level
- Evidence of working with staff from different professional disciplines
- Awareness of HR issues
- Able to utilise evidence in practice
- To be competent in the independent STI management of asymptomatic and symptomatic patients or the management of patients living with HIV infection
- Experience of managing/coordinating team work
- Experience in issuing medicine using PGD's
- Proven management experience
Desirable
- Experience of clinical supervision
- Experience in gynaecology, HIV, counselling, research, working in outreach settings and other experience related to the speciality or willing to undertake training
- Evidence of practice development
- Participation in audit/research

- Experience in working with young people under the age of 16
- Recent experience of providing contraceptive care
- LARC training / willingness to undertake
Skills and knowledge
Essential
- Proven clinical knowledge linked to area of specialty, and excellence in care delivery
- Current experience as either a sexual health (GU/FP)nurse alternatively current experience in a HIV inpatient or outpatient setting
- Venepuncture
- Ability / experience of managing change personally and as a facilitator
- Knowledge of budgets
- Experience of data
- Microscopy
- Cervical Cytology
- Cryotherapy
- Assessing Fraser Competence
- Proven knowledge of safety issues through clinical governance and risk management
- Proven leadership and deputising skills in clinical area
- Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives, staff and external contacts, including in challenging situations, demonstrating respect and kindness.
- Knowledge of current challenging and issues in nursing
- Commitment to teaching and learning for self and others
- Commitment to quality initiatives and research
- Clinical decision making skills and ability to prioritise workload
