- Ensure quality service is delivered when taking charge of the department and providing a supportive role to other units within the department.
- Participate in the management of the unit and offer support to the department matron.
- Maintain effective liaison with other disciplines in all matters of patient care delivery. Providing advice within own clinical sphere of nursing.
- Perform extended clinical skills, including plastering, suturing, defibrillation, intravenous cannulation, phlebotomy, and administration of intravenous therapy.
- Be fully conversant with the Major Disaster Plan, including the Chemical Decontamination Policy, and assist the Unit Manager in its implementation during emergencies.
- Assume responsibility for own professional development and growth producing evidence at appraisal to meet key performance standard recommendations.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered general nurse, current NMC Registration
- To hold recognised resuscitation course at ALS level
- Recognised teaching and assessment course (Mentor preceptorship course)
Desirable
- Management qualification
Experience

- Emergency department nursing at Band 6
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Competent in time management and efficient in prioritising workload effectively
- Able to allocate staff appropriately to create a safe and efficient skills mix
- Able to act on financial data
- Leadership and influencing skills
- Competent to clinically provide nursing care in all areas
Special Requirements

- Able to work flexible shifts including weekends and bank holidays
