Acting as a clinical role model, mentor, and leader, you will support the Ward Sister and wider team in maintaining exceptional standards of patient care, ensuring smooth daily operations, and contributing to the continuous development of the service.

This position includes shift-based work (days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays) and is ideal for an experienced, proactive nurse with a strong background in orthopaedics or surgical care, looking to step into or continue in a leadership role.

As a Senior Registered Nurse at The Horder Centre, you will play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding orthopaedic and surgical care within a close-knit, high-performing inpatient team. Acting as a clinical role model, mentor, and leader, you will support the Ward Sister and wider team in maintaining exceptional standards of patient care, ensuring smooth daily operations, and contributing to the continuous development of the service. Clinical Excellence

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care across all stages of the patient journey.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient-centred care, ensuring safe clinical outcomes.

Provide clear, compassionate advice and communication to patients and their families.

Use your clinical knowledge to support complex patient needs and care escalation.

Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care in line with NMC and organisational standards.

Leadership & Supervision

Actively lead and manage the clinical team on shift, ensuring safe and effective service delivery.

Deputise for the Ward Sister, providing leadership and guidance in their absence.

Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff and student nurses, fostering a positive learning environment.

Take charge of shifts and be responsible for workload delegation and prioritisation.

Undertake the role of Duty Nurse as required, overseeing wider clinical operations out of hours.

Service & Quality Improvement

Support and contribute to clinical audits, incident reviews, and quality initiatives.

Assist with the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures and care pathways.

Engage in nursing research and service development activities to enhance clinical practice.

Ensure effective use of resources, maintaining cost efficiency without compromising care standards.

Governance & Professionalism

Promote a safe working environment, managing incidents and escalating concerns appropriately.

Maintain personal accountability in line with NMC code of conduct.

Comply with infection prevention, risk management, and safeguarding practices.

Always Uphold the values and reputation of The Horder Centre.

Act in such a manner as to satisfy public trust and confidence, to uphold and enhance the good standing and reputation of the perioperative professions and The Horder Centre.

About You

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse (RGN) with at least 2 years post-registration experience.
  • UK-Based Orthopaedic or surgical nursing experience is highly desirable.
  • Hold a recognised mentorship/PS/PA qualification (or willing to obtain).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, prioritise workloads, and manage shift operations.
  • A passionate and empathetic professional, committed to patient-centred care.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and eager to develop both clinically and professionally.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to support both patients and colleagues.
  • Aligned with our values of Caring, Friendly, Quality, Integrity and Pride.

Desirable

  • Mentorship - PS/PA minimum
