As Senior Performance Manager, you will play a key role in developing, implementing and continuously improving the Trust's performance management framework in line with the Integrated Performance Approach, while leading the design of effective reporting systems and dashboards that promote accountability and delivery of key standards.

The postholder will provide expert analysis and assurance on performance, identifying risks, trends and opportunities, and escalating issues where required. Working closely with senior leaders, you will support the development and delivery of action plans to improve performance and service quality, represent the Trust at internal and external meetings including Integrated Care System forums, and provide high-quality strategic advice on complex performance issues to support senior decision-making.

In addition to this, the postholder will also deputise for the Head of Performance where appropriate and play a key role in embedding a culture where performance information is used proactively to drive improvement.

Qualifications Required

Essential

  • Educated to degree level (or significant experience coupled with achievement that indicates degree-level ability) in a performance management role

Knowledge Required

Essential

  • Experience of working in or with a complex organisation at a senior level in a performance management role
  • Track record of achievement in a senior performance role
  • Experience in a staff management role

Knowledge/ Skills/experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge and demonstrable practical experience of performance frameworks and performance management processes in a large complex organisation
  • Highly developed analytical skills in the interpretation, manipulation and analysis of complex data in order to identify trends, exceptions and variance to facilitate evidence based decision making/action planning on performance issues.
  • Excellent IT/keyboard skills, particularly in relation to creating, formatting and manipulating databases and spreadsheets and preparing complex analysis
  • Excellent numeric skills with an understanding of basic statistical concepts such as correlation.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate highly complex or highly sensitive information where other leading opinions may conflict or there may be barriers to understanding.
  • Ability to make judgements which require analysis, interpretation and comparison across a range of options.
  • Ability to make judgements on whether performance appears reasonable to determine whether further action or intervention is required to achieve targets
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to present performance information and delivery training on performance management to a wide range of staff.
  • Excellent written skills with the ability to deliver clear, logically constructed and factual based focused reports.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines for own work and those of direct reports
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and motivate staff within the team and the wider organisation in terms of the performance agenda
  • Experience of gathering and documenting data requirements and the translation of technical specifications to clinical processes and how these align.

Desirable

  • In depth knowledge of performance frameworks and performance management processes within the NHS
  • Knowledge of regulatory bodies and their requirements, e.g. Care Quality Commission and NHS England.
  • Awareness of the environment in which a Foundation Trust operates
  • Able to use speciality performance management software
  • Understanding of complex statistical concepts such as regression analysis, confidence intervals, statistical significance
  • Experience of performance improvement work
  • Experience of managing a successful performance management team
  • Experience of planning and organising performance management arrangements across organisations
