As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi.

You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.

Clinical commitments

The clinical fellow will provide clinical support to the Department under the aegis of the Clinical

Service Lead/Head of Service, Dr K Chaudhuri

1) To contribute and manage the day-to-day clinical activity this involves clinics; result acknowledgement; responding to patient / GP queries, hot clinics, injection clinics, assistance to the Day Case Unit and specialist nurses and any other activity considered appropriate for the role

2) To participate in the regular departmental MDT, QUIPs activities; audit and service development projects

3) To provide once a week on call from 0900-1700 as part of the rota for our resident doctors

4) To develop a subspeciality interest in Connective tissue diseases and vasculitis

This is a 1 WTE clinical post which should help with working meeting the competency for the rheumatology component of the CCT

Job Plan

The detailed job plan will be agreed in consultation with the Clinical Head of Service, Dr K Chaudhuri

Although this is a clinical post, the department supports its staff to undertake clinical research that would benefit patient care and improve outcomes but there is no protected research time, details. You will be accountable to the Clinical Head of Service, Dr K Chaudhuri, and detailed commitments may be modified according to the needs of the Department.

ADMINISTRATION AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

1. To attend departmental meetings and to participate in other departmental activities as required for regular resident doctors/ trainees. You will be expected to provide cover for the monthly training days for specialist trainees.

2. To participate in relevant professional activities. And engage in professional development.

3. To ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work.

  • Evidence of working in Rheumatology in a UK hospital for at least 2 years Ability to conduct clinics with minimum supervision at a level of ST 6 Joint injection skills
