The post is based in general paediatrics encompassing PED, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. Baseline working is 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and the on call out of hours commitment is a contribution to a 13-person junior grade rota made up of normal days, long days, lates, twilights and nights (see below). Successful candidates are encouraged to sign up to the hospital bank if desired to help fill occasional out of hours locum work (long days and/or weekends). Outpatient experience is included in this post and includes running and managing your own rapid referral clinics or specialty clinics depending on the candidate's interests.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
  • APLS or equivalent
  • Evidence of commitment to paediatrics as a career

Desirable

  • Medical education qualification
  • Undertaking/interest in undertaking a SPIN in subspeciality/demonstrable interest in named special interest

Experience

Essential

  • Middle grade experience in General Paediatrics or participation in an on -call rota at ST3 level or equivalent
  • Broad experience at SHO level in paediatric in a range of specialties - both inpatient and outpatient
  • Experience of acute paediatrics and ED
  • Experience and commitment to education and training
  • Evidence of training in teaching and education.
  • Experience in area of interest
  • Safeguarding experience

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Able to communicate well in verbal and written English
  • Ability to manage common acute and chronic paediatric disorders
  • Ability to act as a senior decision maker
  • Good practical skills
  • Ability to teach and train junior staff
