Post 1: Parent Infant Mental Health Service
As a highly specialist Clinical Psychologist or Psychotherapist, you will contribute to the delivery and development of the service alongside an experienced, skilled and passionate multidisciplinary team. You will work with infants, young children and their families from a wide range of backgrounds, providing specialist support where there has been early adversity or trauma, while also strengthening our close partnerships. You will have opportunities to further develop your skills in parent-infant mental health assessment, formulation and intervention through a range of training and professional development opportunities. You will provide a formulation-led service for families from conception to age five, delivering specialist assessment and therapeutic interventions. You will also support the wider workforce through consultation, training and supervision, helping to promote understanding of infant and early years mental health across the system.
Post 2: Family Intervention and Therapy Service (FITS)
You will be an integral part of a team delivering trauma-responsive intervention for local families via professional consultation, training, reflective practice, and therapeutic pathways. Working alongside other practitioners, you will facilitate multiagency consultation, develop and deliver training and implement multi-level therapeutic intervention for children and families in contact with Local Authority Children's Services.
Tameside and Glossop CAMHS are a multidisciplinary team providing a mental health service to children, young people and their families. The service has well-established links with our partner agencies including education, children's social care and the VCSE Sector and is striving to fully align to the Thrive approach to delivering mental health services. Education and qualifications
Essential
- Doctorate level qualification as a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist as recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists. AND Full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists OR Doctorate level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical, psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS or BPS Statement of Equivalence AND Eligibility for Chartered Clinical Psychology Status & HCPC registered.
Desirable
- Parent-Infant Psychotherapy Training Additional Training in other relevant evidencebased Parent-Infant interventions
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with patient groups presenting high levels of complexity and trauma, including infants, young children and families.
- Experience in psychotherapy/psychological assessment and therapeutic work with infants and young children and their families/ parents/carers with a full range of presenting problems.
- Experience of consulting with other professionals in Health, Education, Social Services and Local Authority
- Experience of representing child psychotherapy /clinical psychology within the context of multidisciplinary and multi-agency treatment and care.
Desirable
- Experience of working in CAMHS and/or with infants and young children, prior to training as a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist /clinical psychologist
- Experience of Audit and Research
- Experience and knowledge of the developmental issues of under 5's
- Experience of work or contact with adult mental health services.
Knowledge
Essential
- Evidence of awareness of perinatal/parental mental health in relation to infant/child mental health matters.
- Knowledge of the impact of developmental trauma and trauma-informed care
- Knowledge of legislation and national guidance in relation to the needs of infants and young children.
- Doctoral level (or equivalent) knowledge of child and adolescent psychotherapy/ clinical psychology, including highly developed knowledge of psychoanalytical/psychological theories and models of development, psychopathology, family and institutional dynamics.
- Working knowledge of professional systems involved in work with infant and young children, particularly in relation to the statutory framework around child protection
Skills
Essential
- Skills in the use of psychoanalytical/psychological methods of assessment, intervention and management in work with infants, and young children and families.
- Skills in co-working, liaison and consultation with others, especially with regard to highly complex families.
- Evidence of a capacity to work collaboratively and flexibly in a multi-disciplinary team context and in multiagency partnerships
- High level of skill in assessing risk in the context of parent infant mental health and with young children.
- Ability to work with people from different backgrounds, cultures and ethnicity from one's own.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in all contact with disadvantaged groups
- High level of ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) complex, technical and clinically sensitive information to children, parents and carers and a wide range of professionals.
- Ability to cope with stressful interpersonal situations, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse and communicate in situations in which there may be barriers to the acceptance of communications.
- Good organisational skills
- Evidence of continuing professional development as required by ACP /HCPC
Work related circumstances

- Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
- Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the Trust's Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies
