The post holders must possess a thorough understanding of the technologies and methodologies relevant to Automated Biochemistry.
The post holder must demonstrate effective leadership and management capabilities while working collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
They will work as part of the technical and scientific team, undertaking a range of pre-analytical and support tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the department. The post holder will take direction from Senior Biomedical Scientists and provide assistance to Operational Leads in the continuous improvement and transformation of laboratory services.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.The Pathology Partnership was formed in May 2021. Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS).The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership.The Partnership has three operational divisions:o Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistryo Microbiology and Virologyo Cellular Pathology and Cancer DiagnosticsThe 2024/25 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE.We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. Qualifications
Essential
- Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Have a completed an MSc in Biomedical Science, or equivalent.
- CPSM Log book (Clinical Biochemistry) if qualified before 2003.
- Registration portfolio IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2003 to 2004) and Diploma in Biomedical Science IBMS (Blood Sciences 2005)
- Specialist Diploma IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2005 onwards)
- MSc Biomedical Science or equivalent scientific qualification at MSc level
- IBMS Fellowship in Clinical Biochemistry.
Experience
Essential
- Post HCPC registration working in a busy, acute medical clinical chemistry laboratory environment.
- Demonstrate ability to cope with competing priorities.
- Demonstrates an ability to respond to change.
- Experienced in a variety of diagnostics techniques in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Experienced using computerised laboratory information system
- Experienced evaluating the authenticity of patient results
Desirable
- Experience of effectively managing staff
- Experience of teaching staff.
Knowledge
Essential
- H&S legislation and procedures
- Specialist knowledge in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Quality management system
- Detailed understanding of UKAS
Desirable
- Knowledge of current requirements for training and career progression
Skills
Essential
- Competent in routine laboratory techniques and troubleshooting
- Ability to analyse, interpret and present routine data/results/concepts
- Working knowledge of word processing & spreadsheet packages
- Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
