Job Description Salaried GP

Employer: Bharani Medical Centre

Location: Slough, Berkshire

Sessions: 46 sessions per week

Contract: Salaried GP

Bharani Medical Centre is seeking a confident, enthusiastic and experienced Salaried GP to join our established and well-supported practice in Slough.

We provide care to approximately 18,000 patients across three nearby sites, supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team of GP partners, salaried GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacists, first-contact physiotherapists and administrative staff.

We operate a structured, digital-first model of care designed to support clinical autonomy, efficient working and a manageable workload. We aim to provide predictable working arrangements, with fixed working days agreed in advance and a supportive clinical environment.

We are looking for a GP who is confident working independently, demonstrates sound clinical judgement and can manage a broad range of presentations commonly encountered in general practice.

Main duties and responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities

The post-holder will provide comprehensive general medical services to registered patients, including:

  • Undertaking telephone and face-to-face consultations, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management.
  • Independently managing acute presentations, chronic conditions and complex clinical problems.
  • Prescribing safely and cost-effectively in accordance with national and local guidance.
  • Requesting, reviewing and acting upon investigations and test results.
  • Making appropriate referrals to secondary care and community services.
  • Providing preventative healthcare, health promotion and patient education.
  • Undertaking home visits where clinically indicated.

Clinical workload and working arrangements

The practice operates a structured consultation model with the following arrangements:

  • Approximately 15 patient consultations per standard clinical session.
  • Dedicated administrative slots for reviewing clinical correspondence and completing associated clinical tasks.
  • Occasional additional urgent or emergency appointments where clinically necessary.
  • Urgent patient requests are managed through established practice triage arrangements.
  • Predominantly telephone-first consultations, with face-to-face reviews arranged according to clinical need.
  • Home visits are part of the role but are relatively infrequent.
  • Fixed working days agreed in advance wherever possible.

The practice recognises the importance of maintaining a sustainable workload and aims to provide sufficient clinical and administrative support to enable safe and effective patient care.

Clinical administration and digital systems

Bharani Medical Centre uses EMIS Web, Anima and Accurx to support efficient clinical workflows.

We have transitioned away from the traditional Docman workflow and now manage clinical correspondence through Anima Documents.

  • Reviewing and actioning clinical correspondence allocated to them.
  • Managing investigation results and relevant follow-up.
  • Completing referrals, prescriptions and clinical documentation.
  • Using the practices digital systems appropriately and efficiently.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records.

Dedicated administrative time is incorporated into the working schedule.

Multidisciplinary working and clinical autonomy

The post-holder will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, including GP partners, salaried GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacists and first-contact physiotherapists.

Although collaborative working and clinical discussion are encouraged, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a high level of clinical independence and confidence in managing their own patients.

The post-holder should be comfortable making autonomous clinical decisions, managing uncertainty and recognising when escalation or additional advice is appropriate.

Quality, governance and patient safety

  • Adhere to GMC guidance and professional standards.
  • Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and significant event reviews.
  • Support the practice in achieving QOF and other contractual requirements.
  • Contribute to safeguarding responsibilities relating to children and vulnerable adults.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development and appraisal.

Education and professional development

The practice supports continuing professional development and collaborative learning.

The post-holder will be encouraged to participate in practice learning activities, clinical meetings, audit and quality improvement initiatives, and wider educational opportunities where appropriate.
