As part of our team, University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

This exciting and innovative post will combine a band 6 clinical nurse specialist role and research nurse activities within rheumatology at Southampton General Hospital.

The post will be split 22.5 hours per week as a rheumatology clinical nurse specialist in the rheumatology department and 15 hours per week as a rheumatology research nurse within our state-of the-art NIHR clinical research facility (CRF).

This is an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse who is highly motivated and interested in working as part of an innovative and friendly rheumatology team.

You will be predominantly based at University Hospital Southampton and will also be expected to work in outreach clinics as part of service development. The majority of the time you will work Monday to Friday 8-4pm; however we expect that you will also work a variety of flexible hours on an adhoc basis as service needs demand.

The CRF has a team of around 300 research nurses, allied health professionals, midwives and clinical trials assistants, working together across the Trust, within our award-winning teams to bring exciting research opportunities to UHS for the benefit of our patients and the future of healthcare.

The research team is composed of multidisciplinary researchers from hospital and university backgrounds, embedded and working in collaboration with clinical services and teams, aiming to deliver a variety of studies to improve patient care and outcomes.

Qualifications / training required

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Educated to or working towards Degree level.
  • Evidence of on-going professional / academic development.
  • Mentorship qualification (or evidence of meeting the outcomes of the NMC standards)
  • Clinical Skills certification relevant to role and specialty

Desirable

  • Certification Leadership or management course
  • Degree in healthcare or biomedical science subject
  • Specialist qualification.

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience, including considerable senior band 5 experience in clinical research or a relevant clinical speciality
  • Knowledge and experience within a relevant / acute healthcare / NHS setting
  • Recent management or leadership experience
  • Interest in Clinical Research.
  • Knowledge of the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Knowledge of International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP).
  • Provide evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice.

Desirable

  • Clinical Research experience.
  • Experience as an NMC / HCPC sign-off mentor or clinical practice assessor
  • Experience of leading the delivery of a clinical research project
  • Experience of being a link nurse (e.g. infection prevention, Manual handling, fire warden, etc)

Aptitudes and skills required

Essential

  • IT literate (proficient in Microsoft office applications)

Desirable

  • Experience with NHS IT systems (eCamis, Charts, EDMS, BadgerNET)
  • Experience with Research IT systems (EDGE, ODP
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems
