King Street Surgery in Kempston is recruiting a receptionist/administrator to join our busy team. This position is offered on a part-time basis, for 1...

  • To be part of the team contributing to the smooth running of the practice by ensuring that all enquiries from patients in person or by telephone are handled efficiently and courteously.
  • Filing, record keeping and the processing of documents. The role involves liaising with doctors and other members of staff.
  • Prepare for each surgery, ensuring premises are tidy.
  • Receive and make telephone calls and take accurate notes.
  • Book and cancel appointments as necessary and deal efficiently with the computerised appointments system.
  • Answer general enquiries and explain practice procedures e.g. on registration, changes of address, etc.
  • Issue medication prepared by the dispenser when the dispensary is closed, and to take and account for any prescription charges due as appropriate.
  • Maintain and operate computer and manual administrative systems.
  • Open and close surgery premises.
  • Inform patients of results of hospital tests as directed by the doctor.
  • The reception/admin staff forms one team and provides cover across a range of administrative duties associated with the surgery.

King Street Surgery is a long established practice, offering a high quality service to patients, within a supportive and caring environment. As a training practice across three sites we are at the forefront of clinical practice and our practice ethos is one which supports training and development.

List size of 21,150, with 7 GP partners, 12 salaried GPs, nursing team, paramedic, clinical pharmacists, management and administration teams.

We are looking for somebody with experience of working with the public in a front-line customer service role or reception experience within a medical setting, though not essential as full training will be provided. You will also require the following::

Essential

  • GCSE grade A-C or equivalent
  • Good IT skills
  • NHS experience would be useful but is not essential
  • Empathetic nature
  • Able to remain calm under pressure
