Primary Mental Health Assistant
Location: SwindonSalary: £90 - £105 per day (dependent on experience)Job Type: Full-timeHours: 8:30am - 4:00pmStart Date: ASAP Are you passionate about supporting children's mental health and emotional wellbeing? Are you looking to gain valuable experience working within a primary school setting? A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Swindon is seeking a dedicated Primary Mental Health Assistant to join their supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about children's wellbeing who wants to gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism, and additional learning needs. Every day is different, but your support will help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. Key responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 support to help pupils regulate emotions and engage in learningSupporting children with SEMH needs, autism, and additional needsDelivering small group activities focused on confidence, resilience, and social skillsUsing positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulationBuilding strong relationships with pupils to help them feel secure and understoodWorking alongside teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to support individual needs
What We're Looking For
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approachA genuine interest in children's mental health and developmentStrong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationshipsConfidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needsPrevious experience working with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential Ideal Backgrounds (Not Essential)
Psychology or related degreeYouth work, care, or support work experienceExperience in SEN settings, PRUs, or alternative provisionTeam Teach, MAPA, or CPI training What's on Offer
