Primary Responsibilities

The following are the core

responsibilities of the practice manager. There may be on occasion, a

requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such

as workload and staffing levels.

The practice manager is

Responsible for

a. Overseeing the day-to-day

operations of the practice, ensuring staff achieve their primary

b. Functional management of

all clinical and administrative staff and nursing staff

c. Direct line management of

the following staff: Senior Staff, Lead Nurse

d. Managing the recruitment

and retention of staff; develop, implement and embed an effective succession

plan

e. Establishing, reviewing

and regularly updating Job Descriptions and Person Specifications, ensuring all

staff are legally and gainfully employed

f. Continuing & enhancing

effective staff appraisal process

g. Implementing effective

systems for the resolution of disciplinary and grievance issues

h. Maintaining an effective

overview of HR legislation

i. Managing the financial

elements of the practice, including budgets, petty cash, etc. seeking to

maximise income and reduce expenditure

j. Managing contracts for

services i.e. cleaning, gardening, window cleaning etc.

k. Maintaining an effective

liaison with the accountants, overseeing practice accounts, ensuring year-end

figures are presented

l. Briefing partners on all

financial matters, including forecasting

m. Managing and processing

partners drawings, PAYE and pensions for practice staff

n. Ensuring the practice has

appropriate insurance cover for its premises and staff locum insurance

o. Developing, implementing

and embedding an efficient business resilience plan

p. Coordinating the reviewing

and updating of all practice policies and procedures

q. Leading change and

continuous improvement initiatives; coordinating all projects within the

practice

r. Ensuring the team reach

QOF targets

s. Managing the procurement

of practice equipment, supplies and services

t. Adopting a strategic

approach to the management of all patient services matters

u. Developing, implementing

and embedding an effective communication strategy (internal and external)

v. Ensuring the practice

maintains compliance with its NHS contractual obligations

w. Actively encouraging and

promoting the use of patient online services

x. Liaising at external

meetings as required

y. Marketing the practice

appropriately

z. Supporting the management

of the Patient Participation Group

aa. Supporting the management

of all complaints

bb. The management of the

premises, including health and safety aspects such as risk assessments and

mandatory training

cc. Ensuring all staff have

the appropriate level of training to enable them to carry out their individual

roles and responsibilities effectively

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary

responsibilities, the practice manager may be requested to:

a. Deputise for the partners

at internal and external meetings

b. Act as the primary point

of contact for NHS England, The ICB, community services, suppliers and other

external stakeholders

Auckland Medical Group is a very friendly, supportive practice, busy Practice.

The clinical team are made up of 7 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 4 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 5 Chronic Disease Nurses, 6 Practice Nurses, 3 HCA's and 1 Phlebotomist.

Admin is headed up by the Practice Manager supported by a team of Senior Receptionists/secretaries and administrators. We have an finance assistant who runs the payments/banking side of the business.

We are very active in Bishop Auckland PCN and have many ARRS Staff including 4 Pharmacists, 4 Pharmacy Technicians, 1 Nursing Associate, 1 Care coordinator and access to a team of social prescribers. We also have access to an Adult and Child Mental health Nurse who works throughout our PCN.

Qualifications

Essential

  • a good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level in healthcare or business

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience of managing accounting procedures including budget and cash flow forecasting
  • Experience of working in a health care setting
  • Experience of performance management, including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures
  • Experience of successfully developing and implementing projects Experience of workforce planning, forecasting and development
  • Experience of dealing with complaints

Desirable

  • Experience working with SystmOne
  • Experience of working in Primary Care
