The following are the core responsibilities of
the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other
tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing
Levels
Obtaining
patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Performing
venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
Maintaining
accurate patient records on the clinical IT system
The
correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Ensuring
samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Working
collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for
patient related matters
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and
other specimens from patients for medical testing. This role requires excellent
interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality
standards.
Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice
protocols
Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT
system (SystmOne)
The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely
manner
Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking
guidance when necessary for patient related matters
