Phlebotomist

• Working to Practice protocols, to take blood samples from patients as required by
• doctors or nurses. This will include INR near-patient testing and monitoring.
• Appropriate training will be provided if required.
• To undertake additional healthcare related duties as requested, such as blood
• pressure monitoring, according to protocols provided and completion of appropriate
• training. To maintain accurate computer records. To actively participate in clinical
• and practice meetings. To keep the Treatment Room in a clean and tidy state in
• accordance with the Practice Infection Control standards. To process and record
• specimens for courier collection. To undertake other duties as and when required
• Please note that there is a requirement to be flexible and help to provide cover for holidays and sickness.

• Frequent exposure to body fluids, e.g., blood and urine
• Occasional exposure to aggressive behaviour
• Frequent use of computer screens
• The Postholder/s should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge
• patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role. Any breach of
• patient confidentiality would constitute gross misconduct and result in dismissal
• To work as a Phlebotomist within a General Practice setting and be part of the
• Primary Healthcare team providing high-quality and forward-
• thinking care to meet the needs of the practice population. Whilst phlebotomy cover
• is sought, additional Healthcare Assistant skills would be of value.

Essential

• Ability to handle simple medical equipment and undertake phlebotomy (dexterity and manipulation skills).
• Frequent requirement for light physical effort for short periods.
• Ability to work within manual-handling policy.
